Gerald Edelman becomes a Certified B Corporation
Leading mid-tier accounting and advisory firm joins the growing movement of companies using business as a force for good.
Gerald Edelman has today announced its certification as a B Corporation (or B Corp), joining a growing movement of companies that are reinventing business for the benefit of all people and our shared planet. Verified by B Lab, the not-for-profit behind the B Corp movement, the achievement demonstrates that Gerald Edelman meets high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability alongside a commitment to goals beyond shareholder value.
B Corp Certification assesses the entirety of a business’ operations and currently covers five main impact areas: Governance, Workers, Community, Environment and Customers. The certification process is rigorous, with companies required to reach a score of 80 points in the B Impact Assessment while providing evidence of responsible practices relating to energy supplies, waste and water use, worker compensation, diversity, and corporate transparency. A business must also legally embed their commitment to purpose as well as profit in their company articles.
Gerald Edelman is now part of a growing community of over 8,000 businesses globally that have certified as B Corps. The B Corp community in the UK is one of the largest and fastest-growing in the world, with over 2,000 companies spanning a range of different industries and sizes. Names include The Guardian, Innocent Drinks, Patagonia, Tony’s Chocolonely, The Big Issue, Finisterre, Elemis, and Sipsmith Gin.
Gerald Edelman has already been making significant strides in corporate responsibility and sustainability:
- The Gerald Edelman Foundation Committee supports young people in London, a core mission of the Firm. Currently, Gerald Edelman supports London Youth as its chosen charity.
- A dedicated Mental Health Committee focuses on employee wellbeing, with five fully trained Mental Health First Aiders.
- The Sustainability Committee has signed up for science-based targets and has already met its scope two emissions target.
- The annual publication of an ESG report demonstrates commitment to transparency.
- Ongoing initiatives to have a positive impact on people, planet, community, and clients.
Carl Lundberg, CEO at Gerald Edelman stated, “We achieved B Corp certification with a score of 84.5 points. B Corp was a natural next step for our firm as it aligns perfectly with our core values and long-standing commitment to our clients, employees, and communities. The certification validates our efforts so far to create positive impact beyond profit and reinforces our dedication to responsible and sustainable business practices.”
