Gerald Edelman provides expert evidence in a criminal case involving immigration offences

We are pleased to announce that Carl Lundberg, Partner at Gerald Edelman, acted as an expert in a criminal matter involving various immigration offences.

Our role was to consider whether the value of cash seized by the police appeared reasonable in light of the Defendant’s explanation, which was that it related to rental income and the proceeds of buying and selling used motor vehicles.

In order to opine, we undertook a detailed review of the Defendant’s personal and business bank statements, as well as sales and purchase invoices relating to the purchase and sale of used cars.

Whilst the report did not impact the verdict in the case, it was considered during the sentencing of the Defendant. Further, the instructing solicitors subsequently further appointed Carl Lundberg as an expert witness in respect of the Proceeds of Crime Act matter connected to the initial indictment, where the Gerald Edelman team identified strong evidence suggesting that a large proportion of the financial benefit calculated by the Crown was in fact derived from legitimate sources.
