Thomas Liu

I work as part of the Transaction services team where our work involves advising on many different forms of transactional work, which includes:

• Supporting buy-side acquisition processes through financial due diligence services and advisory work;
• Business valuations for various different types of scenario planning; and
• Supporting companies going through an IPO process to ensure that they are adequately equipped to take this step.

We are also involved with various ad-hoc advisory work, such as implementing management incentive schemes and providing support for navigating complex IFRS requirements.

As every client is unique, my role is to ensure that we fully understand their requirements and work with them to provide tailored solutions. This allows us to provide objective and succinct advice for whatever engagement we are tasked with.

I started out as a graduate trainee at Gerald Edelman working in the audit department alongside doing my ACA qualification.

As I was coming to the end of my training contract, an opportunity came to join the Transaction Services team and I have seen the department grow from an initial three members of staff to now around twenty people.

What is the most exciting thing on your bucket list?

The most exciting would probably be space travel. I can imagine it being quite an out of body experience to be somewhere looking back down to Earth.

What one piece of advice would you give your 10-year-old self?

Don’t put pressure on yourself and compare with others, everyone goes at their own pace.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

Teleportation – it would it save a lot of time and money on commuting costs.

Who inspires you?

My parents – they have been selfless and made sacrifices in order to give the best possible opportunities for me.
